|The Trace of Rome? Aerial archaeology in Syria and Lebanon under the French Mandate (1923-1946) ||
|Aerial photographs of the Syrian steppe created an archaeological sensation in the late 1920s, during the years of the French mandate for Syria and Lebanon. Dr Daniela Helbig discussed how the Jesuit Antoine Poidebard, with the help of the French air force, traced the region's ancient past from above.
